This 1913 Illinois license plate pair, numbered 61818, is a well-preserved piece of early automotive history. With white characters on a blue background, these plates were designed for visibility on the road. Unlike later designs, the front plate features a stencil cutout for airflow, one of several methods Illinois used in 1912-1918 to improve radiator cooling. This plate also has details about the rules of attaching plates to your vehicle, as well as the manufacturer info from The Greenduck Company. Since the U.S. didn’t standardize license plate sizes until 1956, these plates are larger and distinct from modern designs. Because of the fragility of the front plate, 1912 Illinois pairs are not easy to find.

Perfect for a garage display, antique auto collection, or vintage transportation decor, this set brings a sense of history to any space. License plates like these make thoughtful gifts for collectors, Illinois residents, or anyone with a connection to the state. They also work well in a gallery wall arrangement, showcasing the variety of colors and styles from different states and eras. Whether as a souvenir, nostalgic keepsake, or unique housewarming gift, this set offers both history and visual appeal.

Size:

Measures about 12.75 inches long and 7.25 inches wide.

Condition:

The plates are in 100% original condition, with no touch ups or restoration. These plates are in good vintage condition overall, and do show some wear from use over the years of use and storage. Most notably, the bottom plate shows some paint flaking to the numbers.
