1916 California Porcelain License Plate with 1919 Star Tab Vintage Auto Collectible 59223

Here we have a vintage 1916 California porcelain license plate. This plate is made of porcelain enamel, which is a thin layer of glass finish over steel. The plate features the number 59223 and blue on white coloring. This is the style of plate that California used and issued from 1916 to 1919, with different shaped tabs for the different years. From the number on the plate, we can date this plate to 1916. California tab numbers should match the number on the license plate itself. The number on the star badge does indeed match the number on this plate, meaning this plate was used for all four years (issued and 1916 and re-registered through 1919).
